AWWNSW 70th anniversary Anzac Field of Remembrance

ANZAC FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE

War widows, women, families, and distinguished guests will continue to gather to remember and commemorate the fallen at the ANZAC Field of Remembrance on Friday 19 April 2024.

This solemn and touching event is held where the tradition began 72 years ago at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney.

The ANZAC Field of Remembrance honours and pays tribute to those who have served and gave their lives in service to our nation.

In a moving ceremony, widows and guests plant a cross, lay a wreath, and place a rose for those who have served and sacrificed so much.

This poignant service continues to give the widows of war, and their families the opportunity to continue history and the legacy set back in 1952. It also recognises the losses and sacrifice of war widows and families who bare an enormous burden for our nation and their lifelong role in supporting veterans who have fallen, been wounded, injured or with illness.

After the success of our live stream last year to connect our far-reaching community, The ANZAC Field of Remembrance service will be live-streamed online on Friday 19 April 2024 at 11.00am via the Australian War Widows NSW Facebook page, YouTube channel and the St Andrew’s Cathedral Youtube Channel for the entire community to participate in.

Thousands of AWWNSW members will receive a small cross to write their loved one’s name on and lay at the ceremony or at home, a local cenotaph, garden or somewhere of meaning.

We are also hoping to host club events where members can gather and watch the live stream together on the day, and we will provide updates and locations when confirmed.

Many of our war widows live regionally or are unable to travel to commemorative events, so having the opportunity to stream this event is our way of including as many of our community as possible.

We encourage all AWWNSW members, volunteers and members of the veteran’s community to be involved in the 2024 ANZAC Field of Remembrance.

Please register now to attend the service at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney. Hurry, places are limited.

If you wish to assist and volunteer on the day of the event, please email guild@warwidowsnsw.com.au or call 02 9267 6577.
